- Ballintubber Abbey was originally built in 1215 by Crovderg or Cathal O'Connor. The surrounding buildings crumbled away, but the walls of the Abbey itself have stood firm since the beginning. The roof fell in years ago, but about 40 years since Father Reidy (who died on the 4th of March this year 1938) succeeded in inducing Sir John Power of Dublin to supply money to re-roof portion of the old Abbey to serve as a church or chapel for the people of the surrounding district.Like every thing else that Fr. Reidy put his hand to - and these were not few - it was beautifully and enduringly done.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
