Old Story (ar lean)
“Once upon a time there was a widow's son whose father had died when he was seven years old.”
(ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)should marry the princess in a year's time. The giant and princess went to the castle. After two days the giant went hunting and the princess took Jack down from the tree, and he lived with the king for a day. The giant could not be killed because he had his soul hidden in an oak tree.
The princess asked him where his soul was hidden, and he told her that it was hidden in an elm tree. Next day he discovered the elm tree decorated with lighted candles and flowers. When the giant came home in the evening he was so pleased with what she had done that he told her this was the wrong tree and that his soul was hidden in an ash tree, opposite the king's door. The princess decorated this tree also. Then she told Jack and he split the ash tree; got the giant's soul and killed it. In the evening when the giant came home Jack met him with a blow of the Silver and instantly killed(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
