- Fairy Forts are not plentiful in my school district They are called liss or fort. In two places the town-land gets its name from the fort. One village is called Liss-Esker and the other Raith. People were buried in the fort in Raith especially young children. The forts are within view of each other. They are circular and have three or four rings of earth round them. On the first ring trees are grown. There is an entrance hole at the side. People have gone down the hole and explored it and have found lovely rooms. They are supposed to have been built by the De Dannans. Instead of leaving Ireland they built these dwelling places. When the Danes came to Ireland they used those near the sea for hiding-places. Once a man went to cut down a fairy tree, a great breeze of wind came and blew all his hair away. Sometimes music and singing at the forts.
