- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)called Máire buideach. Her husband's name was Mr Madden. She lived in a little house in the field with her children. Her husband arose one night went back to Loughcase and got drowned. Her children died with the famine and were buried in the grave. The grass is now grown over it.
When Bishop McHale came back to Mr. Pat Davies at Roonath Hll he looked back at the Protestant Church in the Colony. He waved his hand and said "the crows will be going in and out there yet" and so they were and the chuch was done away with.
There were ten houses in Emlagh before the famine. One of them was going up from our house owned by Mr Madden. The other four are in Mr Austin McHales land. The ruins of one of them is still to be seen. One of them was owned by Mr Patrick Lyons, another by Mr Dan Henry a stocking buyer from the North. Another was owned by Charley O'Toole. The other was owned by Mr Thomas Fergus. Those stories were told to me by Mr Thomas Gibbons,
