No body liked to get married during the months of May or October, as these were supposed to be unlucky months , also weddings seldom took place on Monday, Wednesday, or Friday .
If no money could be given as a fortune to the girl getting married a sheep, a field, or a fat goat was sometimes given instead.
Many girls followed the custom of having "Something old, something new, something borrowed , or something blue" worn by them for their weddings, and if any one of these things was forgotten they would consider their marriage unlucky.
At many of the weddings there was a large number of side-cars, and old shoes were tied on to the cars for luck, and many girls covered themselves with red quilts while on their way to the church for luck also . Showers of rice were thrown on the married couple as they were leaving the church.
