- The Waterford Parliamentary election of 1866 was contested by De la Poer and Beresford. De la Poer was supported by the people while Beresford was supported by the Tories and the Protestants.
De la Poer's strongest supporter was Sir Richard Musgrave of Tourin, Cappoquin. About him the people sang the following verse :-
"Good luck to Sir Richard Musgrave
We hope he is blest.
Above all other gentlemen he's the foremost, the best
Above all other gentlemen on a hard trial day
He swore he would free us from Botany Bay".Beresford's chief supporter was Sir Richard Keane of Cappoquin. About him this verse was sung by the people(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
