- Holy wells were very valuable for cures in olden days. People used to travel from all parts of the world to visit these holy wells. In the district of Clondalkin about six miles from Dublin there is a holy well called Saint Brigid's Lane Well. It is situated in a lane called Brideswell Lane about two hundred yards from the road. It is like a small house with a flat roof with ivy and grass growing on it. It is square in shape. The doorway is like a square window. There are bushes growing over it. Many people have been cured of sore eyes by going to this well three times and bathing the eyes three times at each visit. When finished they hang the cloth up on the bush. Alice O'Keeffe of Clondalkin who was blind went to this well and did as above and regained her sight. Many other people have also the same story to tell. An old woman named Mrs Rice who is dead now believed that the well used to overflow every night at twelve o'clock. Many people around Clondalkin use the water for drinking purposes.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
