is marked by spade by double line as in diagram. From shaded part clay will be lifted to cover ridge and mould potatoes. Potatoes are planted in rows of 3 and kibbed with a kibbing stick - an instrument like a trowel. Manure is placed on ridge after 10 or 12 days and covered with clay taken from "shough" - the shaded part. Clay for moulding is obtained by digging more clay in shough and lifting it with shovel.
    Split Ground.
In this case work is done on lea or grass land. Shaded part is dug with spade and turned over on ridge. Potatoes are then sown as above. Rest of process is same. Spraying is common and usually done twice. Most machines are owned in partnerships by 2 or 3 people.
    Varieties.
Snowflakes, Kerrs Pinks, Arran Banners, Arran Victors, Early Roses. A-Victors are favourites for table and A-Banners for feeding animals. Potatoes are cut in several parts
