    There is an old saying about brides that get married on a sunny day "happy is the bride that the sun shines on". In some parts of Ireland there are men called "match makers" and they ear a lot of money at this. Their work is to go about the country seeing what boys and girls are ready to get married.
    Then, they make suitable matches. Sometimes the boy and girl that are going to get married don't see each other until the day of the wedding. This is a what is called a "made match".
    When a girl is getting married her father or mother usually gives the "bridegroom" money and this is called dowry. Sometimes stock and goods are given.
    When there were no churches, marriages often took place in houses.
