- The wild birds common in our district are the crow, magpie, thrush, blackbird, robin, wren, cuckoo, corncrake, swallow, lark, yellow hammer, plover, goldfinch, sparrow and many others. The cuckoo, the corncrake and the swallow mygrate. Some people can tell the kind of weather we are going to have, by the bird. If you saw the crow looking towards the west there would be a storm from the west. If you saw the birds diving there would be rain. If a robin came to your house and was friendly with you there would be snow. If you saw the swallow flying low there would be bad weather, and if you saw them flying high there would be good weather. When the crows are off in their flight and fly upwards and downwards that is a sign of rain.
