   Martin of course tried to bargain with him, but the pedlar would not agree unless he received money in exchange, Martin had no money and was never allowed to know where the money was, but instead of money he offered to give him a cure for his sore foot.
   He was not inclined to exchange at first, but when he saw the cure, he willingly decided to exchange it for a variety of laces and other cheap articles and he then disappeared down the road.
   When he thought he was quite safe, he could resist it no longer so he lay down beside a ditch and when he had counted his money and had put it safely into his pocket, he lay down quite-contentedly and soon fell fast asleep.
