District was on duty he met Martin and as usual he asked him had he any news. Martin declared he had none only that Pat killed a wandering pedlar and buried him in the back garden. this of course aroused his suspicions and Martin quickly led him to the place where Pat had first buried the the old man. When he was supplied with the necessary tools he commenced to dig for the body but he had not gone far until he hit something- it was the horns of a goat. "Oh", cried Martin in amazement he has grown horns.
This of course was great fun to Martin but it was not so with the Sergeant.
He then realized that although Martin was a fool he himself was also tricked.
This occurrence taught him a lesson and he was not to listen to any of Martin's stories from that day forward.
