- At the Eglish Cemetery stand the ruins of an old Cistercian Abbey from whence in olden days the monks were driven.To testify their purity still remains the holy water font worn and shiny by the rubbing of their habits when they made the sign of their faith.Nearby in Eglish wood stands a round tower monument of the penal days, known as Lowes Folly. A man by the name of Captain Lowe to give employment to the very poor caused it to be built and it stands to this very day, monument of his generosity.Old men tell of an ancient legend about this Abbey. For years after the flight of the monks, there flew about the walls of the Abbey two doves believed by the people to have holy spirits(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
