- There are not many forges in the locality. At Cahermore Cross in Ardrahan parish there is a forge worked by McInerney, his father was a smith before him and his grandfather. The present smith is almost sixty years of age. The forge has a large door and a wooden roof. The fire place is at one end with the bellows over it and a large stone trough on the raised hearth.
He shoes horses and asses and repairs all farm implements.
He shoes wheels in the open air near a river, lake, or pond.
The smith's curse is supposed to bring misfortune, people dread it, they never like to offend the smith.
He is supposed to be a very strong man.
The forge door is never closed or locked as it is considered most unlucky(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
