- Long ago there was a lot of spinning done in this district . Nearly all the old people were able to spin and a man called Thomas Erwin used to weave . Before spinning rape oil was mixed through the wool .Then the wool was carded fan afterwards spun . Socks and stockings were then knitted from the thread. Sometimes the knitted goods were dyed.
The Kavanaghs used to make gates , ploughs and fire-cranes. They lived in Newgrove.
There is an old man in the district who is able to make skins and baskets from sally rods .
There is a lime kiln in Hawkins's land . Lime was burned there long ago.
