Everybody in the house helps to churn. The churning takes an hour in Summer and an hour and a half in Winter.
Warm water is poured in during the churning to separate the cream from the butter. There is a special dish called a butter strainer used for taking the butter out of the churn. When you are taking the butter out of the churn you wash the strainer and the things used with boilding water.
You lift out the butter with the strainer and put it in a dish and wash it and put salt in it. The buttermilk is used for feeding calves.
