When they were boiled they were peeled and bruised with flour and salt and then baked.They also made a great deal of oat bread by mixing oat meal and water and then baked with a gridle before the fire. Every year when they reaped the oats they threshed it with flails. Then they took the oats to the mill in Dromahair owned by a man named [Hosey] and there it was ground into oat meal. Then the farmer brought a cart of turf to the mill to be burned to dry the meal. That night he stayed up in the mill to keep turning the meal while it was drying. Every Winter every house in the locality was filled with bags of oat meal. In the harvest time when the farmers were busy at their work they made a fire in the field and then threw in a 'cast' of potatoes.
