- X This is another version of the same story related by Mr. James Kelliher, Dernahona, titled "Priest Hunters" X
During the penal days there was a priest concealed in the house of Owen Wynne in the townland of Lower Annagh.
The priest-hunters near Carrick-on-Shannon, heard of him being there and came on night to capture him. On their way they called to a protestant house named Payton in the townland of Cornamuckla South.
The soldiers were having a drink of porter before starting their journey to Lower Annagh.
Old Mrs Payton a woman of seventy years overheard the conversation that they were to behead the priest if they caught him.
She travelled all the way to Lower ANnagh, a distance of two miles, and gave word to the priest that the priesthunters were after him.
So the priest left then and went round the lough through the twnlands of Cultha and Dernahona.
He hid under a bush that was on the edge of the lake. The soldiers passed by him without seeing him(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Faisnéiseoir
