- There is an old fort in the village of Ballyskea, it is said that long ago people used to go in there for safety, they had a big wall all round it, there was a stream all round it also, so that the Danes could not get into them. One night as some people were passing it they heard a lot of noise, they stopped to listen and an old man came out to them and asked them what were they doing there. They did not know what to do, he sent them home and as they going home it began to rain very heavy they sat under an old tree and when morning came they were dead. Some people say that there is a lot of gold in the fort others say it was brought off by the Danes.
