    Smith, in treating of the Fitzmaurices, says that Clan Maurice had its name from Maurice, son of Raymond Le Gros, who married Basilia, daughter to Eve, daughter of Earl Strongbow.

Here the long line of Fitzmaurices ends, a line that had blazed across the O'Connor territory and pushed that ancient clan back beyond the Cashen, and even then followed to narrow downthe possessions of that family having built and occupied the Castle of Beale and Lick.
    At the death of Francis Thomas in 1818 the line was merged in
