There were no thatched or slated houses long ago, but the people lived in mud walled cabins and tents. The people used to travel by water, and when the water was not very deep, the people used to bring their farm produce to Carrick-on-Shannon market by boat.
There were no stone bridges over the rivers long ago, but wooden bridges. There was one of these bridges over the Shannon. On each side of this bridge there was a castle. The remains of one of these castles are still to be seen in the Barrack yard. There is a photograph of this bridge and castle taken from a pencil drawing, and is now in possession of a certain(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
