    It is said that the fairies are out on that night,a nd that sloes should not be eaten after that.
    It is a custom on Saint Martin's day to kill a fowl, and sprinkle its blood in the four corners of the house in his honour.
    It is not lucky to eat a blackberry after Michaelmas Day because the devil spits on them..
