In old times an Irish wedding was an important event and it was a day or days sometimes of pleasure and excitement in the district around. Before the jaunting car because common the bridal party used to walk to the church. The bride used to walk or drive with the best man and the Groom used to walk with the bride’s maid. If was considered unlucky for a sister of the Groom to go to the church or be present at the marriage ceremony. It was considered lucky for the bride to wear something old and something new. After the ceremony, the bride and groom waked together and the bride’s maid and the best man. When they reached home those who were invited gathered to the house. Sometimes a large crowd walked or drove to the church. After breakfast the boys and girls danced generally in a field or barn. They continued dancing, drinking and feasting till dinner time. After dinner they used to go for a drive on jaunting cars. Sometimes about twenty cars drove to the neighbouring town and each car had some amusement – a fiddle(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Faisnéiseoir
