- This was another way of taking butter. I often heard the old people say (referring to a district of a county where the cows would be giving good yield) "They got the rope with the 40 knots there."
Tooma in the parish of Aughavan is very good land for milch cows. My father told me that in olden times each cow gave two tubs of butter each summer, and the people in a joking manner used to say "They got the rope with the 40 knots in Tooma." - The "Gauldoron Garragh" was a knot made on a twine. This knot was made on an animals back and was supposed to be a charm against the evil eye.
