  1. Cloone though very small is very historical. During the rebellion of 1798 the French army under the command of General Humbert encamped in a field near the Catholic church Cloone. Ever since this field is known as the "Lamp Field".
    They made their way to Ballinamuck in Co Longford where they fought a fierce battle. Next day when the French were about to start on their way to fight another battel the chains by which the cannons were drawn could not be found. It was generally supposed that they were stolen,
