There were many kinds of bread made. Potato-bread, Boxty and oat-meal bread. The potato-cake was made in the following way. A plate of cooked potatoes were peeled and broken up in a basin. Salt was then put on it and mixed up through it. Flour was also put on it and all mixed up to-gether until it was dry enough to make a cake of it.
The people only made the bread when they wanted it. There was always a cross made on the cake when made in olden times. The people baked the soda bread in a flat pan called a griddle.
They baked the oat-meal bread before the fire. A long thin flag was placed before the fire and the hearth cleaned. Then the oat-meal cake was placed standing on the hearth supported by the flag. When the flag got heated it(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
