There are many other old ruins in our local district the most important being the old church in the Kilmacowen cemetry which was constructed by a great chief who once lived in the townland. It was from this that the townland was so called. - We have many old place names commonly used in the surrounding district though we do not know why some of them are called.
They are used nowadays to distinguish fields and roads from each other.
