- Long ago when the men were going to England, they had to walk a long way to get a boat.
The usual place they got a boat from was Dundalk. Some of the men would trot that distance. They trotted in such a way that they seldom got tired.
There was a man who lived in Carrowilkin about sixty years ago. Whose name was Thomas Gallagher.
He told a young man one day, of the good trotter he was. He asked him could he trot and the young man relied that he could. They started to trot, and after going about half a mile the young man was surprised to see how fresh the old man was, so he suggested they they walk.
