every person who goes to a holy well usually leaves relics. The usual relics that are left are hair or hair pins needles money and some people leave stones. After many years the piles of stones that are left form mounds. It is also usual to throw a stone over the spot where a fatal accident occurred. Such places are well known and the writer knows two such scenes but from observation it appears the custom has now been obsolete since no fresh stones have been added - moss and other vegetation had completely covered the work of a younger generation who from some superstitions dread or intention to do good never failed to add an extra pebble when wont to pass the dread spot.
