Then they cleaned the daggons or coarse wool and spun it and knitted socks and long stocking and scour them snow white. - We have few houses nowadays like what we had long ago. In the townland of Carrowreagh there were few slated houses in the long ago and the general run of houses were thatched or flagged roofed.
The thatched roof was made by long scraws the length of the roof left in against long flat boards. These boards were called ribs. Then a coat thatch made from rushes were put top of the scraws. This was sewn to the ribs by means of a red rope or by a straw rope. The sewing was done wit a needle called a thatcher's needle. This had a very big eye and it was very long and strong.
