- Long ago, when the people would be about to eat, they would put the table in the middle of the floor. Oatmeal bread was eaten. This was made from oatmeal mixed with water. It was left on the bread-board beside the fire until it stiffened. Instead of cups, wooden mugs were used. When not in use, the table was not hung up but left in on a loft at the end of the kitchen. The people need nettles for their meals, when vegetables were not plentiful. Fish was eaten in plenty on Fast Days(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
