- Some years ago there lied in this parish am old man and his family, who never went to Mass even though the church was only about a hundred yards from the house.In olden times the harvest Collection was not taken up at the door of the church as it was to-day. The priest, accompanied by a few other men, went round the village and visited each house. The occupants of the house gave him three stooks of oats. When all was gathered it was built into a stack in some field. Then it was taken to the marked and sold.
While on his usual visits he called for the oats to the old man. The man was reapin in a field close to his house. When the priest asked for the oats the old man attacked him. He put the hook round the priests neck with the intention of cutting the head off him. He was rescued by a passer-by.
On departing the priest cursed the old man, saying "The day will come when the grass and weeds will be growing up to the door and the birds will be flying through your house"
