On morning early in the month of April.
As bright Sol divested his sable gown,
I got a notion, which I put in motion,
To pay a visit to Killarney town
'Twas the gratification of imagination,
And the solicitation, which induced me stray
For recreation is the mind's salvation
Which in great prostration greatly lay.
II
The feathered songsters sang out sonorous,
From every bower, and every tree.
The seemed to join in one heavenly chorus.
So sweet, so fresh, so delightfully.
The lark the proudest, he sang the loudest,
Poured out his ecstasy to the new-born day
While the humble redbreast, did his big best
To suit the occasion with a tuneful lay.
III
The thrush and blackbird sang out collateral
Their song in concord, mixed harmoniously.
Whilst the sporting woodcock on the adjacent hill top
Brushed off the dew, from the heather tree.
