- (2) Long ago people were twenty years of age when they wore boots. Many people never wore boots. The name of one man who never wore boots is Séan Lar. He was a beggar who lived in this district. In Summer mostly all children go barefoot. The poor people's children go barefoot in Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter. Long ago people made their own leather from goats and sheeps skin. They pulled the fleece from the skin and they never tanned it. It was very good leather. The boots that were made of it lasted two or three years. The soles were made of timber. There were other boots soled with guttaperk and when a person went too near the fire the heat would melt the soles. The soles and uppers were attached with glue. Some people say the feetwater should always be thrown out not straight but sideways. Other people say the feetwater(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
