The chimney was made of briars or sally rods. Some of them were made of clay and wattles. The fireplace was always at the North gable in some of the houses. Over the fire places there was an imitation of an arch made of sally-rods. The rods were plaited together like those in a basket. This was supported by a strong beam under the cuples. The windows in some houses were half-glass and board.
The floors were made of clay, channel or flags. There is a half-door on every house and there was long ago. Turf and wood were used for the fire.
The people made rush-lights to provide them with light. They made them by rubbing rawson on a rush and lighting it. Hob-lamps were also used and they are in some houses at the present time. Candles were also used and they were made locally.- Bailitheoir
