  1. The little homes of Monaghan are cresting many a hill,
    The byres are full of cattle, there's corn for the mill,
    There's full and plenty always for the children on the floor,
    And a welcome by the hearthstone for the stranger at the door.
    Like stars the yellow mayflowers are peeping from the hedge,
    And ceanabhans like snowdrift are lighting all the sedge,
    Though brown and bare the bogland, the whins are shining gold.
    And Hawthorn buds are gathering within their leafy mould.
    The little homes of Monaghan are scattered on the brae,
    With trees and well and farmyard and haggards full of hay,
    There's joy in every streamlet, there's health in every wind,
    I would not change my homeland for wealth of any kind.
    Though sorrows come in plenty and children wander far,
    The fires of homes are burning, the door is left ajar;
    And hearts are sealed in silence within its quiet fold,
    There's pity for the wayward, and wealth of love untold.
