- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)She keeps them out both neat and clean,
But the lazy cuckoo she lays but two,
And brings them out with a deal to do". Birds sit for three weeks hatching the eggs. Boys are told if they rob a bird's nest they will get the stick.
The weather can be judged by the birds. When the swallows fly low and the seagull is coming in from the sea to the land it is a sign of wet weather.
There is a rhyme about the seagull. "seagull, seagull, stay on the strand
For there is no dry weather
Whille you are on the land". The snipe is another bird which by its bleating song tells when there is going to be rain. In my district it is called "the weather goat".- Bailitheoir
