The snipe lays four or five brown eggs which are so much like clay that they are very hard to be found. The plover lays its eggs in a hollow in the ground. They are brown spotted with black and grey. The pheasant generally makes its nest under a hedge. It flattens some withered grass and lays from ten to sixteen eggs, which are brownish olive in colour. The corncrake makes a nest of pieces of hay and straw. It lays from four to seven cream coloured eggs, spotted with brown. The lark builds a small nest of moss, generally in tufts of grass.
