He was a very strong man and could mow from two to two and a half acres each day. He received the small wage of sixpence a day, but still he was quite satisfied.
There were many good walkers too. A man named Mc.Donagh often walked to Sligo and Ballaghadereen to sell butter. Another man named Hannon, who worked for an old gentleman named Gorman, used to walk to Ballina and to Crossmolina to attend fairs. An old woman named Mrs. Corcoran used to travel to Croak Patrick, perform the pilgrimage and return the same day on foot. This she did for four years in succession.
