- Bread was made long ago from wheat and corn when grown. It was not ground locally. Flour was not made locally. No one in our house remembers querns being used.
People used to make Potato-cake, Oaten meal bread and Boxty. They made Oaten-bread out of water, salt, sugar and meal. They made boxty by scraping raw potatoes and mixing flour through it and then they put it down to bake on the pan.
They made Potato-cake with boild potatoes and sault and flour and they backed it also on the pan. Bread was made every day. Before they put down the cake they would put a cross on the top of the cake so that it would bake well.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
