- Long ago there were two hedge schools in my district one in Tonragee and one in Ballyglass.
Those schools were in stables. The name of the teacher that was teaching in my village was John Caffery from Aughamore. This teacher used not go home every night but the pupils used to bring him to their house for a night on their turns.
There were 120 pupils going to school in it. They used have seats made of sticks, and stones with straw on top of them to sit on.
They used to have slate and slate pencil.
The names of the books they had were "Reading made easy" and the "Double Spelling book".- Bailitheoir
