- Once upon a time, an Irish man went across to London. When he came off the boat in London he met an English man and a Scotch man. The English man had a horse and an ass, and the Scotch man had a horse. The English man gave Paddy the ass and the three of them jogged off through the streets of London. After they had travelled for a while Paddy got dry and got off the ass. He went in to a public house, and when he was gone in the English man cut the tail off the ass. When the Irish man came out after getting the beer, the other two men went in for a drink. Then Paddy took out his pen-knife and cut ^the two sides of the horses. When the English and Scotch men came out they asked the Irish man what happened to the horses. The Irish man told them that they split their sides laughing as his ass without "ere" tail(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
