About sixty years ago not far from the townsland of Cooleshall there was a school in a place called the "Jackdaw Rock." At a farmer's place by the name of Cass's Mr. Low was a school-master, taught in a barn belonging to those people. There was an attendance of about twenty pupils. They had a spelling book and they spelled in syllables. They had no desk, only planks with stones under them to sit on, and when they wanted to write they used to go up to the master one by one.
