- The local landlord was Lady Analey over the Gowran estate and Mr. Henrion was over the Coolroe estate. They were very good landlords. For a number of years they supplied the poor of the town of Graig-na-Managh with blankets, shawls and fieze coats for the men. The tenants were never punished for trivial acts. Tithes were collected in this district formerly and given to the Protestant clergy. The tithe proctors were hated by the people, as the people had to leave aside for the protestant clergy one-tenth part of everything you owned. The people could not stand it, and serious conflicts were often the result. There is a story told that one or two got hurles and a hurling ball and hurled the ball against the Protestant Church door until the Protestant clergyman came out and said "Tithes no more".
