Blue is considered a lucky colour for the bride to wear on her wedding-day. There is an old saying that the bride should wear "something old and something new, something borrowed and something blue. If the bride changes garters with one or two of her friends they will marry before the year runs out. The breakfast is held in the bride's house and in the evening a dance is held in the kitchen or in a barn to the music of melodions and fiddles. "Straw-boys" visit the house disguised and dressed in all manner of curious clothes. They take part in the dance and are generously entertained. Horns are also blown. A bride does not cross the threshold of her old home for one month after her marriage.- Bailitheoir
