- John Phelan Kevinsheath told me that he heard this story from an old man, John Rourke, who lived in Upper Sconce over forty years ago.
this man's father, his mother and family were going to sit down to supper - A large scib or basket of potatoes one summers evening when a young man of fine appearance but unshorn and famished looking came in.
He asked for a few potatoes for himself and his comrades who he said were lying down almost fainting with hunger in the corner of the wood a few perches away.
Rourke took up the skib of potatoes and told him to take skib and all that he could bring back the skib when finished. The wife took an oat cake that was on the table and placed it over the potatoes, adding that they had another baked for themselves.
