Another game played generally by children living convenient to large stretches of water, is that of skimming flat pieces of stone or slate over the smooth surface of the water. The children of the Boyle district endulge freely in this pastime.
The players get small light pieces or scales of rock, known by the Gaelic name of "méaróg", stoop low, and with force send the flat missle skimming swiftly over the surface. The players vie with each other as to who would make the most circles on the smooth surface of the water.
