- Here are a list of ''weather signs''of this district.
Red sun at sunrise- Rain and storm.
Hazy moon- Rain
To hear the train at Castlerea station (7 miles distant) - Rain
Birds fly high- Fine weather.
Seagulls resting on pasture land- Rain and storm
Horses nervous and running about the fields- Thunder.
The cat scrapes a chair or table leg- Storm
Mountains look near- Rain
Dust rising off the roads- Rain
Red ants flying- Rain
These are partly common in this area. There is no one about here who is looked on as a reliable weather prophet but the above signs are usually correct. When the sea-gulls are seem gathering on pasture land it is looked on as a sure sign that rain, and possibly, storm is coming.
The people in general do not seem to be as good judges of the weather as those living near the coast.
