- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)gathered our chairs round the fire to listen to the tales of our parents. They told us that the dreaded pooka travels on this night, piercing with his evil eye anyone unlucky enough to cross his path. The Holy Souls are supposed to be allowed to roam around the earth on this night, they said, and memories are stirred up of those that have died. Thus on Hallowe'en, the smile and the tear are blended together. This ended our night's fun, so we recited the Rosary for the Holy Souls and retired to bed.
