The strange woman's words came true. The cow was a good one and she yielded daily a good flow of milk more than sufficient for the needs of the family.
In the course of time the cow had a calf and this calf grew to be a cow, and after five or six years the poor family had a little herd or five or six cattle in their possession and they began to feel very independent.
All went well for some time, until one morning while the woman was milking the cow which she had got as a gift from the strange lady. She got angry with the cow and she cursed her, and beat her with the spancel, and when she let her out after milking she waited until the other cows were let out, and she led them town towards the lake and she and the other cows disappeared into its depths and they were never seen no more.
The day after the cows disappeared the strange woman came in again and told the woman of the house that she had brought her back the pot which she(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
